Follow the instructions to install Clovis.
When installation is complete continue to step 2.
Step 2 – Run Outlook and register
Once Clovis is installed, it must be registered to a specific
user and machine. Important: Until the registration
process is complete, Clovis e-mails can not be processed and
will be stored in a ‘Pending’ sub-folder within
the main Clovis folder in Outlook.
Registration form
You will be prompted to register the first time you start Outlook. We need your registration details so that you can start using Clovis. Please fill out the requested information, read the terms and conditions, agree to them once you are happy and click ‘Register’.

Clovis file location
Upon clicking ‘Register’, a screen appears allowing
you to to confirm the location for Clovis data files to be
stored. In most situations, the default location (My Documents/My
Clovis) will suffice. However, if you want the data files
to be saved elsewhere, you can choose a different location
here.
Send registration e-mail
Once you have chosen the data file location, an e-mail will
appear containing information supplied in the registration
process. On slower systems, or systems with a lot of e-mails
in the Inbox, some time may pass before this e-mail appears.
Send this e-mail ‘as is’ to the prepopulated address
by clicking the Send button. <show

Receive authorisation
A few minutes after you have sent the registration e-mail,
the Clovis server will automatically return an authorisation
key via e-mail. Please ensure that this e-mail, from registrar@clovis.net,
is not intercepted by junk mail or spam filters. To check
the status of authorisation, go to the main ‘Clovis’
folder in Outlook and view the ‘Messages’ window.
When the message window reads ‘Authorisation Received’,
your Clovis installation is complete. <show

Additional Installation
Notes
Installation Permissions
- The installation should take place under the intended
user name, if possible, so that registry entries are inserted
into the CURRENT_USER section.
- You will need rights to write to the Application directory
(Program Files by default) and the Windows 32 directory.
- If necessary you could install twice, first as an administrator
to ensure any missing Microsoft controls are installed,
and then as the user (ignoring warnings, if unable to write
the controls), so that the registry settings are made.
- If you are installing once centrally before deploying
to other users (see also User Registration Preconfiguration
below), you should NOT run Outlook on the original machine,
between installation and taking your snapshot, as this would
change some registry settings.
File Locations
- All installation files are added to the Application directory
(except three standard Microsoft controls COMDLG32.OCX,SYSINFO.OCX
and MSCOMCT2.OCX).
- If you are installing centrally before copying out to
other users, you may wish to preconfigure each user’s
Clovis directory
- When Outlook runs after first Clovis installation, the
following directories are created in the user-chosen or
pre-configured Clovis directory:
- Support/
- Users/
- Users/[UserName]
- Users/[UserName]/Data
- Users/[UserName]/Profile
- Several files (which need to be frequently overwritten
at run-time) are copied from the Application directory to
the Support directory.
Registry Entries
- All Registry entries are under CURRENT_USERS / Software
/ Steelhead
- On a virgin installation, Clovis makes the following
additions to the registry, which should be preserved, if
Clovis is being deployed to end users.
- Clovis
- Clovis / Common
- Clovis / Common / Support Files
- Clovis / Common / Support Files : Count = 14
- Clovis / Common / Support Files : File[n]= ….
- Clovis / Common / Support Files : FreshInstall = True
User Registration Preconfiguration
- These changes should be made before running Outlook for
the first time
- Automatic Directory Selection (to avoid the user having
to choose their Clovis directory)
- Create a “My Clovis” directory for the
user [Preset Clovis Path]
- Clovis create subdirectories when it first runs
(see File Locations, above)
- You will need to create the Support subdirectory
if you are using Automatic Registration (see below)
- Add a String Value to the registry CURRENT_USERS
/ Software / Steelhead /
- PresetBasePath = [Preset Clovis Path]
- Automatic Registration (v 1.3.10+) (to avoid the user
having to fill in the registration form)
- Add String Values to the registry CURRENT_USERS /
Software / Steelhead /
- Clovis / Common / AutoRegistrationUserName = [UserName]
- Clovis / Common / AutoRegistrationOrganisation
= [CompanyName]
- Clovis / Common / AutoRegistrationEmail = [EmailAddress]
- Clovis / Common / AutoRegistrationOn = True
- Because of Outlook’s security, Clovis is unable
to send out the necessary registration e-mail without
user intervention. You can prepare a file, with any
necessary instructions or explanations, which will be
included at the top of this e-mail (e.g. <p>We
have installed Clovis on your machine because <b><i>it
is a great product and you will find 1000s of uses for
it</b></i>. <br><br>You need
to send this registration mail for the installation
to be complete. <b>Just click the Send Button</b></p>).
- You must pre-configure the Automatic Directory
Selection (see above), and create the Support sub-directory
- Filename: [Preset Clovis Path]/Support/CustomRegistrationHeading.htm
- Do not use <HTML> or <BODY> tags
- If the destination machine can only send plain
text mails, then the file should be a CustomRegistrationHeading.txt
file.
- No Splash Screen (v 1.3.10+) (to avoid the Clovis (un)loading
screen being displayed)
- Add String Values to the registry CURRENT_USERS /
Software / Steelhead /Clovis / Common / SplashScreen
= False
